Energy Star Rated Appliances Sales Tax Holiday over Memorial Day Weekend 2009
Starting this Saturday, Texans can purchase Energy-Star rated appliances through midnight on Monday without paying the sales tax. It is an effort to promote the "going green" campaign. This campaign hopes to help Texans make the transition to purchasing newer, more efficient appliances. These new models are said to save 10 to 50% more energy than the same models of their counterparts.
The Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday applies t
- Air-conditioners priced $6,000 or less,
- Ceiling fans, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
- Programmable thermostats
- Refrigerators prices $2,000 or less
- Washers (but not dryers)
To qualify for the sales exemption, the Energy Star logo must appear on the appliances. The tax breaks also applies to purchases made on the Internet and catalog purchases.
